PRODUCT DESCRIPTION


Introduction
Carolme HCT 20 tablets contains Olmesartan medoxomil and Hydrochlorothiazide.
Olmesartan medoxomil mainly reduces hypertension and antagonize the action of angiotensin II receptor.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic which prevents the body to absorb salt which causes fluid retention.

Mechanism of action
Cartelma-HTC tablet is a combination of antihypertensive and diuretic.
Olmesartan medoxomil produce its action by inhibiting the binding of angiotensin II to AT I. This causes AT I mediated vasoconstriction which causes decrease in the blood resistance and blood pressure.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic which produces its action on renal tubular electrolyte reabsorption. It also causes increase in the excretion of sodium and chloride ions. It also causes increase in the secretion of aldosterone secretion, increases in urinary potassium loss, and decreases in serum potassium.

Absorption
The drug after oral administration is bioactivated by ester hydrolysis to olmesarton and which causes absorption from gastrointestinal tract.
Distribution
The volume of distribution for the drug is about 17 ltrs. The drug is mainly bound to plasma protein and causes its penetration in red blood cells.
Excretion
The drug is mainly excreted through urine and feces.
Hydrochlorothiazide
Absorption
After oral administration about 50 – 60% of the drug gets absorbed.
Distribution
About 67.9% of the drug is bound to plasma protein.
Excretion
The drug follows renal excretion.
